We run grass and beach hat leagues on the Sunshine Coast, open to anyone - no experience, no friends needed. Just show up and we'll sort the rest.
Ultimate Frisbee is a self-refereed, mixed-gender, fast-moving outdoor sport. Our leagues use a 'hat' format - you sign up solo and we build balanced teams for you.
It's a team sport played with a flying disc. Two teams score by catching the disc in the opposing end zone. You can't run while holding it - you have to throw it. No referees: players call their own fouls, which sounds chaotic but genuinely works.
Every game ends with a "spirit circle" - teams score each other on sportsmanship, not just the result. It keeps the vibe genuinely great.

When we're running pickup it's a casual, drop-in throw - no signup, no experience needed, just turn up. We don't run them every week at the moment, so check our Facebook group for details of any upcoming sessions.

I've made so many new friends and always felt supported while learning new skills. That support helped me progress to playing at both regionals and nationals for the first time. I'm still loving it now, and no matter how busy my other sporting commitments get, I always make sure to keep frisbee part of it.
I had never played ultimate before and was very hesitant to join but am so glad I did. The community in the Sunny Coast is so supportive and everyone was willing to help me learn. I have since gone on to play regionals and nationals for the coast and have enjoyed every minute of it. The Sunday afternoon beach sessions are a must.

Our mixed squad competes at the Australian Beach Ultimate Nationals each year. The pointier end of what we do - usually a season or two of league time before you'd jump in, sooner if you've come from a sporty background. Selection announced before each season.
We send squads to several Brisbane tournaments through the year, including Pride Cup. Plenty of first-season players make these squads - the level varies by event, if you want to take it a step further there'll be a tournament and team we can find for you.

The sport is self-refereed - no officials, no drama, just players who've agreed to be honest with each other. We take Spirit of the Game seriously. It's what makes the community genuinely great to be part of.
